FRAUD ALERT: Never Provide Your Account Information to Anyone By Phone
A unique type of technology now enables fraudsters to fake the number they are calling from by making a false number appear on your caller ID. A few members have reported spoof calls that look like they are from a financial institution. This scam is called number spoofing. Here is what you need to know:
Don’t trust your caller ID. Scammers can spoof any number so it looks like they are calling from a particular company, even when they’re not.
Don’t provide any personal or financial information unless you’ve initiated the call and it’s to a phone number you know is correct.
As a reminder, Advantis will never ask you to provide personal info like your social security number, card number, account number, or your PIN. If you receive a call from anyone asking for your financial info, please hang up and call us at 503-785-2528 to report the incident.
Advantis is a not-for-profit financial cooperative, locally owned by our members. Which means instead of giving our earnings to corporate stockholders like banks do, we return them to our members in the form of better rates, lower fees, and more free services.
