Celebrating 85 years of cooperative banking
85 Years

Our credit union tradition of “people helping people” began on September 5, 1928, when 36 employees joined together to create a true financial cooperative. Informally known as the “Down and Outers’ Club,” these original credit union members pooled their savings, each contributing what they could to make loans to one another in a time of need. At a time when consumers were often charged upwards of 50 percent annual interest, credit union borrowers paid a fair and reasonable rate, and savers received a strong dividend on their savings in return.

From these humble beginnings, Advantis’ has grown to become Oregon’s fourth largest, not-for-profit credit union – 53,000 members strong. Advantis members enjoy higher earnings on savings and pay lower costs for credit and financial services than they would at a for-profit bank. As we celebrate our 85th anniversary of “people helping people” we thank YOU, our member-owners, for your trust and loyalty. We remain dedicated to keeping your credit union safe and sound and helping our members improve their financial lives. Your participation benefits you and your fellow members and makes our cooperative stronger. Thank you Advantis members – we appreciate you!

Advantis donates $7,500 to help at-risk youth achieve an education

We believe education and learning can lead to incredible possibilities. That's why Advantis recently donated $7,500 to non-profit Friends of the Children, funding scholarships for at-risk youth to further their education and vocational training. The scholarships will help youth facing poverty, unstable home lives, and other challenging circumstances achieve greater opportunities. This is the second year Advantis has supported the scholarship program at Friends of the Children, a non-profit organization that provides Portland's most vulnerable children with intensive and long-term mentoring and resources throughout their K-12 school years.
