FAQ: Balance transfers, convenience checks, credit limits

Balance transfer offer

Qualified credit card holders may periodically receive special balance transfer offers in the mail from Advantis. Please review the following FAQ, and contact us if you have any questions.

What is the Advantis offer?

The offer for Advantis members is a special balance transfer rate. From April 28 to June 30, 2022, you can use the convenience checks to transfer (or pay off) loans and credit cards at other financial institutions and enjoy a special low promotional rate on the transferred balances.

Does a balance transfer offer affect my credit score?

No, because Advantis did not make a “hard” inquiry in your credit file to extend this offer.

What are the benefits of a balance transfer?

  • Enjoy a lower rate and pay less in interest expense, so you save more.
  • Pay off balances faster, with more money going to the balance and less toward interest.
  • Streamline monthly payments by consolidating debt, so you have fewer bills to manage.

How do I take advantage of the offer?

Use the convenience checks you receive in the mail. The checks must post by June 30, 2022 to qualify for the promotional rate. If you lose your checks or need assistance, please contact us.

Can I use my credit card to make a balance transfer?

No. You need to use the convenience checks to make a balance transfer.

Can I pay off other Advantis debt with the convenience checks?

No. This balance transfer offer is valid for non-Advantis loans only.

When will the interest from this offer be applied?

We’ll start charging the promotional interest rate on balance transfers on the transaction posting date, and this rate will be effective for 6 months following the posting date.

When will the balance transfer post to my account?

Most balance transfers will post to your account within a week to 21 days. It just depends on how quickly the payee processes the transferred amount. You should continue to make payments on the other account until you see that the transferred amount has posted and the balance has been paid.

What can I use the convenience checks for?

  • Pay off higher-rate (non-Advantis) credit cards and loans
  • Consolidate loan balances
  • Pay for a major expense
  • And anything else you need

Would Advantis ever decline a balance transfer by convenience check?

We may decline a convenience check balance transfer if:

  • The account is past due or over limit
  • The request is more than the maximum amount disclosed
  • We reasonably believe that you might be unable or unwilling to repay the balance, or for any other reason as described in the Advantis Cardholder Agreement

Can I still make a balance transfer if I’ve recently lost or replaced my card?

Yes. Your physical card has no effect on this offer.

Can I earn rewards on any balances transferred?

No, balance transfers do not earn rewards or rebates.

Will I have to pay any fees on balance transfers?

No, Advantis does not charge a fee for balance transfers.

How do I use the convenience checks?

Convenience checks, also known as credit card checks, look similar to personal checks. You can sign, date, and use them in the same way. When you use a convenience check, the money is deducted from your available credit at the special balance transfer promotional rate on your Advantis credit card. Convenience checks must post to your account by June 30, 2022 to qualify for this special rate.

Can I use the convenience check(s) to initiate a cash advance?

Yes. You can write the check to yourself and deposit it into any bank account.

What if I never received my balance transfer checks or I’ve lost them?

Contact us so we can place a stop-payment on the checks.

Will you send me new checks?

At this time we are unable to order more balance transfer checks for you. But if you’d like to take advantage of the promotional rate offered to them and make a balance transfer, just contact us and we can help you directly with a balance transfer.

Are the convenience checks protected against fraud?

Account numbers are scrambled in the MICR line of the convenience checks, so they are only recognizable by our credit card vendor. If you experience fraudulent transactions as a result of unauthorized checks, contact us and we’ll immediately help to resolve the situation.

What if I don’t want to use the convenience checks?

No worries. You can shred the checks. Or contact us and we’ll place a stop-payment on the checks.

Can I work with Advantis directly on a balance transfer instead of using convenience checks?

Sure thing. Contact us and we’ll gladly help you make a balance transfer to your credit card.

Can I opt out of future credit card balance transfer offers?

Absolutely. We don’t want to be a pest. Contact us and we’ll help you opt out.

What if I have an issue with a merchant or financial institution accepting the checks?

Contact Advantis and we can easily advance funds from the credit card to your checking or savings account. Funds may take up to two business days to post in your account.

I have an Advantis credit card but did not receive a balance transfer offer.

Advantis is extending this special balance transfer promotional rate to credit card holders based on their unique financial qualifications. All other Advantis cardholders continue to enjoy a competitive rate, and we can follow the steps above to help them transfer a balance to their card at our standard low rates.

Credit limit increase

Qualified Advantis credit card account holders may periodically receive credit limit increases due to your good habits and strong credit history as a cardholder. Review the following FAQ, and please contact us if you have any questions.

Why would I receive a credit limit increase?

Because we want to reward members who show good habits in managing their account and have a strong credit history. So you may periodically receive a credit limit increase from Advantis.

Does a credit limit increase have an effect on my credit score?

It’s important to note that your credit score can be impacted by multiple factors, such as timely payments, applying for loans, and your overall credit usage on revolving lines of credit (such as credit cards). In general, having a higher credit limit is a good thing. It decreases your overall credit usage and increases your available revolving credit, which can be beneficial to your credit score.

What if I want to revert to my prior credit limit?

We can help with that. Contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.

What if I want to opt out of future credit limit increases?

Same thing. Contact us and we’ll be happy to help you out.

What if I want to see about getting a higher limit than the one I received?

Please know that the limit increase you received is dependent on your unique credit qualifications. Contact us to speak with a Member Advisor about being considered for a higher credit limit
