Grow 2018 Recipients

After more than 17,000 votes, six nonprofit organizations have been selected to receive an Advantis Grow grant to assist them with projects that will benefit our community.

Congratulations to our 2018 Grow recipients:

Audubon Society of Portland
Audubon Society of Portland's mission is to inspire people from all walks of life to enjoy, understand, and protect native birds and wildlife and the natural environment upon which we all depend.

Grant will support the TALON  (Teach, Advocate, Lead, Observe, Nurture) Program. Portland Audubon’s TALON job training program provides leadership, skills training, and paid apprenticeships in conservation fields to youth of color living in and around Portland. TALON builds leadership in the environmental community that reflects our region’s diversity.
DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital
DoveLewis is the Northwest’s only nonprofit, 24-hour emergency and ICU animal hospital. The mission of DoveLewis is to provide the best emergency and critical care for companion animals, to support the veterinary profession, and to support the animal-loving community.

Grant will revitalize the hospital’s comfort rooms which are used by clients who are experiencing the loss of a pet. Grant funds will purchase furniture and special equipment to aid the comfort of patients, clients, and staff.
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon
Make-A-Wish Oregon grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. For many wish kids, a wish serves as a catalyst to better health. It’s carefully planned and designed to complement a child's medical treatment, and give them the hope and strength they need to fight their illness.

Grant will fund backpacks given to each child in advance of their wish experience. Backpacks include a wish itinerary, supplies, branded buttons and t-shirts. For wish kids, the act of making their wish come true and providing personalized wish enhancements such as the backpack, can provide renewed energy and the emotional strength needed to fight a critical illness.

Mercy Corps Northwest
Mercy Corps, the global humanitarian organization based in Portland, serves the Pacific Northwest through Mercy Corps Northwest (MCNW), it’s only U.S. field office. MCNW works with local aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners to be better prepared, competent, and capable.

Grant will support online small business curriculum for entrepreneurs with physical mobility limitations, those located in rural areas of Oregon, and women enrolled in MCNW’s entrepreneurial program at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.

Snowcap Community Charities
SnowCap is the largest provider of food assistance in the State of Oregon. Serving all of East Multnomah County, SnowCap makes healthy, fresh foods available to individuals, children, the elderly, and those who would otherwise go without.

Grant will purchase Chromebooks and mobile WiFi to register clients for food deliveries, provide signature pads for the pantry, and replace broken office chairs for intake volunteers. This will improve the client experience, save time, and reduce paper expense by 50%.

The Good Neighbor Center
The Good Neighbor Center provides safe emergency housing and support services for families and individuals. During their stay, families are provided with daily meals, case management services, access to a children’s program, life skills classes, and assistance in the process of gaining permanent housing.

Grant will improve the overall health and safety of Good Neighbor Center residents by constructing onsite facilities to treat and prevent the spread of bed bugs.
