CREDIT CARD UPGRADE

Frequently asked questions for current cardholders

Current Classic cardholders

If I want to upgrade to Rewards, why should I submit my request by September 1?

If you request to upgrade to a Signature Rewards card by September 1, we can make this change with no new credit application required, and no new inquiry on your credit file. If you request this change later, it will require a new credit application/inquiry. It’s easier for you to let us know you want to upgrade by September 1.

What if I have a current balance on my Classic card?

We will transfer any current balance on your Classic card to your new Platinum (or Rewards) card.

Is my card number changing with this automatic upgrade to Platinum? Or if I choose Rewards?

Yes, to both. Because we are upgrading you to an entirely new credit card type, your card number will change. We understand this may be an inconvenience, so we’re taking extra steps to help make this an easier transition for members who have set up automatic payments from their Classic card.

Advantis is participating in Visa Account Updater (VAU), a service that provides card number updates to merchants who maintain card-on-file (COF) account information to process recurring customer payments. For example, participating companies like Netflix, Amazon, and many others who keep your card on file will receive and process your new card info from Visa (via Advantis), so you don’t have to.

Although Advantis is taking this step, we would recommend you take the extra precaution of contacting companies to which you make a recurring payment to ensure they participate in the Visa Account Updater program. We’d also recommend that you monitor your account in Advantis Online Banking to ensure your automatic payments have continued. If not, please contact the merchants.

Will this change affect my credit score?

No. Advantis will not be reporting this upgrade to Platinum as a new loan to the credit bureaus, so the change will have no effect on your credit score. Also, if you notify us that you want to upgrade to a Signature Rewards card instead by September 1, it will have no effect on your credit score.

Can I still use my Classic card?

To make this change as seamless and convenient as possible, your current Classic card will continue to work through November 15, 2021. This is approximately 30 days after you’ll receive your new Platinum (or Rewards) card, giving you more time to make the switch. It’s important to note that Advantis is retiring the Classic card, so it will no longer be available.

If I choose to upgrade by September 1, will it affect my credit score?

No. If you notify us that you want to upgrade to Signature Cashback Rewards by September 1, this change should have no effect on your credit score. If you notify us after September 1, a new credit application/inquiry will be required.

I’m happy with my current Platinum card and don’t want to upgrade. Do I need to do anything?

No. Nothing is required on your part. You will continue with your same physical card and card number.

Is anything else changing with my Platinum credit card?

No. Unless you notify us that you want to upgrade to a Rewards card by September 1, you will continue to have and use the same physical Platinum card and card number.

Is my card number changing?

No, we’re keeping things simple. The new contactless Signature Cashback Rewards card you receive in October will have your same card number, so auto payments you have set up should continue as usual. Please keep in mind that your card expiration date will change, so we recommend you relay this new expiration date to merchants for which you send automatic payments as an extra precaution.

Can I still use my Platinum Rewards card?

To make this change as seamless and convenient as possible, your current Platinum Rewards card will continue to work through November 15, 2021. This is approximately 30 days after you’ll receive your new Signature Cashback Rewards card, giving you more time to make the switch. It’s important to note that Advantis is retiring the Platinum Rewards points-based program, so it will no longer be available.

What rewards categories will be included in the new Rewards program?

The new Rewards program is simple and straightforward, with one category: cash. You’ll earn 1.5% unlimited cashback on every purchase. You can redeem it by transferring to your checking or savings account or as a statement credit.

Why is Advantis changing the program?

We’re making the switch for a couple reasons. The vast majority of our Advantis Rewards cardholders currently redeem their points in cash. Plus, cashback rewards programs have become extremely popular with consumers nationwide. So this change allows us to provide more value to our cardholders, and helps us attract more members to our credit union co-op.

What Rewards categories are being retired?

All non-cash rewards categories such as merchandise, travel credit, gift cards, and experiences will be retired on September 26. We realize this is a change for our cardholders, so if you’ve been saving your points to redeem in any of these categories, please do so by September 26. And remember that your current points will be increased by 50% in equivalent cash value in late September, which will be reflected (and redeemable) in your Rewards account by mid-October.

Do I need to redeem my points before the upgrade to the new Rewards program?

Absolutely not. Advantis will not only roll over all of your points to the new program, but we are also increasing your current points balance by 50% in equivalent cash value.

How will I redeem cash back in the new program? What about the current website?

The site where you currently redeem your points will be replaced with an upgraded site where you’ll be able to see and redeem your earnings balance in cash. We’ll let you know once the new site is ready in mid-October and encourage you to log in.

Will the upgrade to Cashback Rewards change my points expiration date?

Yes. If you have a current points balance, we’re adding a lot more time for you to redeem your rewards (as cash back) in the new program. All of your earnings accumulated on the retiring Platinum program will have a new expiration date of four years from the date of new card issuance (approximately October, 2025). Please note, as you use your new Signature Rewards card in the future, cash back will expire four years from each transaction date on which it was earned.

Will there be a transition period when the rewards site is not available?

Yes, beginning September 27 and approximately two to three weeks thereafter, the site will be unavailable as we make the switch from points-based rewards to the new Cashback Rewards program. We apologize in advance for this short-term inconvenience, and we’ll email you to let you know when the new site is ready in mid-October.

Will this change affect my credit score?

No. Advantis will not be reporting this as a new loan to the credit bureaus, so this Rewards program change will have no effect on your credit score.

Can I stay on the existing program?

The existing program will change to the new Signature Cashback Rewards program in October, and we hope you’ll take advantage of it. We think you’ll love the higher earning potential with 1.5% unlimited cash back, paying no annual fee, and all the new Signature Visa card benefits. If you’d like to change to a different credit card option in October, please contact us and speak with a member advisor.
